The IHS Fasteners eCatalog is a powerful decision support system for engineers in the aerospace, commercial aviation and defense industries. Developed in conjunction with the Aerospace Industries Association (AIA), the IHS Fasteners eCatalog is designed to automate and streamline the workflow of engineers as they identify and select fasteners and hardware.

Throughout the design phase, engineers spend significant time researching multiple standards from different industry sources, such as AIA/NAS (Aerospace Industries Association/National Aerospace Standards) and Mil Specs, in order to identify and select fasteners to match design specifications. Since a single standard could yield as many as 20,000 possible part numbers, choosing the correct fastener is a tedious, time-consuming process.

The IHS Fasteners eCatalog expedites the identification and selection process by enabling engineers to easily find information to identify standard fasteners. In addition, the IHS Fasteners eCatalog provides tools for engineers to select the best fasteners that meet both industry standards and specific design requirements.

With over 600,000 discrete part numbers, the IHS Fasteners eCatalog is a comprehensive single source for bolts, nuts, screws, brushings, pins, spacers, grommets, retainers, washers, inserts, rivets, wire and more. For each part, engineers can view information in several distinct categories, such as material, finish, thread-type and size. This information is fully indexed for faster searching.

  • Searching the information in the IHS Fasteners eCatalog is intuitive and quick because of a powerful parametric search engine. Capabilities include: Part number search Side-by-side comparison
  • Text search - Allows for searching by description or attribute

Searches can be continuously refined for more precise results. Parametric search engine capabilities allow the user the flexibility to change attributes and add or delete characteristics to narrow results down to the precise part that is required. The IHS Fasteners eCatalog also allows you to compare search results quickly. Information on multiple fasteners can be viewed side by side with difference highlighted for easy comparison.

Single Source for Fasteners

At most organization, the process of selecting parts is typically not standardized, leading to proliferation of similar parts. The IHS Fasteners eCatalog provides a single source of information. All engineers – design engineers, hardware engineers, fastener engineers, standards engineers and quality engineers - access the same information.

Using the same decision support system provides the following benefits:

  • Standardizes and streamlines the design process
  • Reduces duplicate efforts
  • Eliminates unnecessary introduction of new parts
  • Improves parts reuse for each engineer and across the organization

In addition, other professionals throughout the organization can access the same information the engineers have, including procurement, materials managers and quality assurance.

Fully Integrated with Critical IHS Data

Additional information for engineers and procurement professionals is readily available through integration with related IHS products:

  • Specs & Standards - Relevant standards are displayed for each fastener. Users can simply click to view the complete standards document from the IHS database.
  • Haystack® - Once a fastener has been identified, users can leverage the power of Haystack to find procurement information from a comprehensive government supplier database. Haystack includes critical logistics information as well.
  • CatalogXpress® - For each fastener, users can quickly access supplier catalogs, datasheets and related information from CatalogXpress.

The IHS Fasteners eCatalog delivers a powerful decision support system to expedite research, design and procurement activities related to identifying and selecting standard fasteners and hardware.
