Challenge
Washington Group International, one of the largest engineering and construction firms in the United States, was maintaining its specifications, standards, and vendor catalogs in three different libraries. The information wasn't always available and was often out of date. In an effort to contain costs and provide faster access to accurate and timely information, the company investigated Internet and Intranet solutions. In addition, they were not interested in any "pay per view" applications that were available. The Engineering Division of IHS had the solution in the form of two products: IHS Specs and Standards Service and CatalogXpress.

Solution
The IHS Specs and Standards Service from IHS integrates 575,000 bibliographic records for standards and well as over 347,000 actual standards documents from more than 450 SDO's. CatalogXpress is a leading Internet service providing complete, full-text catalogs from more than 16,000 vendors. Both provided the required information and updated it on a timely basis. As a result of leveraging these Web-based applications, four separate data collections from three different sites were merged into one location.

Value Created
Washington Group International has reduced its library budget by sixty percent (60%) and improved its ability to meet company and customers needs.
