Texas Instruments Inc. (TI) introduced four dual-output SWIFT direct current (DC)/DC step-down converters with integrated field effect transistors (FETs) that are designed to deliver 2-A and 3-A of continuous output current and support input voltages of 4.5 volts to 28 volts.

The switchers are billed as reducing external component count for point-of-load systems used in applications including high-definition televisions (HDTVs), set-top boxes and other consumer electronic systems, according to TI.

TI's 2-A TPS54283 and TPS54286 and 3-A TPS54383 and TPS54386 SWIFT converters are designed to reduce input capacitance by switching each output at 180 degrees out-of-phase at a frequency of 300 kHz and 600 kHz, said TI.

Each device features current mode control and integrates the compensation components to lower the total number of required external parts.

A sequencing pin helps designers meet sequencing requirements without additional circuitry by allowing the user to select which output ramps up first or to program both outputs to ramp ratio-metrically, said TI.

TI's dual-channel, non-synchronous converters are promoted as providing 1.5% output voltage accuracy (down to 0.8 volts) for each output, said TI. The devices have three selectable levels of overcurrent protection, are designed to be low on-resistance and have a thermal shutdown of 145 degrees Celsius. They are designed to work in hot environments where thermal performance is needed, said TI.

Each device comes in a 5 millimeter (mm) by 6 mm, 14-pin HTTSOP package.
