Texas Instruments Inc. (TI) introduced a system-on-chip (SoC) microcontroller unit (MCU) that provides a signal chain for handheld medical applications.
The MSP430FG4270 MCU has on-chip memory and integrated analog peripherals for portable applications such as personal blood pressure monitors, spirometers, pulsoximeters and heart rate monitors.
In order to measure, monitor and display analog physiological input signals such as temperature and blood pressure, the MSP430FG4270 MCU is designed to integrate the analog and digital signal chain, said TI.
This includes signal conditioning techniques such as amplification, filtering and digital conversion. Other features of the MSP430FG4270 include:
- A 16-bit reduced instruction set computer (RISC) architecture.
- A 16-bit sigma-delta analog to digital converter (ADC) with internal reference and five differential analog inputs.
- A 12-bit digital to analog converter (DAC).
- Two configurable operational amplifiers.
- A 16-bit timer.
- 16-bit registers.
- 32 input/output (I/O) pins.
- Zero-power brown-out reset.
- A liquid crystal display (LCD) driver with contrast control for up to 56 segments.
