STMicroelectronics added the M29W320, a 32 megabit (Mbit) device that is automotive grade certified for operation over the -40 degrees Celsius to +125 degrees Celsius temperature range.

The device is intended for dashboard systems, automotive multimedia and other applications that need fast access to a large amount of code and data.

The ST NOR Flash automotive product portfolio offers devices from 4 Mbits to 32 Mbits. The company will release a 64 Mbit NOR Flash integrated circuit (IC) in 2Q 2007 and a 128 Mbit device by the end of the year.

Fabricated in 0.11 micrometer Flash process technology, the M29W320 can be read, programmed and erased over a power supply range of 2.7 volt (V) to 3.6 V.

The asynchronous random access time is 70 nanoseconds (ns), and typical byte or word programming time is 10 microseconds. Data retention is guaranteed at 20 years, and write endurance is 100,000 program/erase cycles per block.

The device can be organized in 8 bit or 16 bit words, and features include independent block erase, optional fast programming for faster production and a 64 bit security code.
