ECHA Publishes New Hazardous Chemicals Information
July 20, 2009 // Published as a news service by IHS
The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) published on its web site on July 14 new information on the risks and hazards of some chemical substances.
The substances concerned are "handovers" from previous legislation - Regulation (EEC) No. 793/93 - which were prioritized due to being produced in large quantities or having possible persistent, bio-accumulative and toxic properties.
In addition, the new web page contains a list of the EU member state competent authorities that ECHA has nominated to take charge of evaluating new data still expected from industry, according to Regulation (EC) No. 465/2008. The results of the evaluations will be uploaded later.
Where relevant, the evaluating European Union (EU) member state has also given a recommendation on how to reduce the risk.
This information is particularly useful for companies that are planning to register these substances, as well as for member states or the European Commission, who may have concerns about them.
ECHA manages the regulation for REACH - Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals - across the EU.
For more information, see the web page on Transitional measures regarding existing substances.
