Symbol RFID Technology to be Deployed at U.S. DLA Distribution Centers
July 14, 2006
Symbol Technologies Inc. was selected by Odin Technologies to support its recent contract win with the U.S. Defense Logistics Agency (DLA).
Symbol's XR400 series of fixed readers and AN400 antennas were chosen by Odin as part of an ultra high frequency (UHF) radio frequency identification (RFID) solution that will automatically indicate receipt of incoming RFID-tagged shipments from select Department of Defense (DoD) suppliers.
Odin's $14.2M indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract calls for the deployment of passive UHF RFID equipment throughout 26 Defense Distribution Centers by the end of 2007.
"With this real-time solution, the DLA has immediate and secure access to information and is better able to manage its inventory while increasing data accuracy and reducing labor costs, ultimately accelerating supplies to the men and women on the front line," said Anthony Bartolo, vice president and general manager of Symbol's Wireless Infrastructure and RFID Divisions.
