Kontron ETX 3.0 Standard Gains Support

June 21, 2006

Several new companies signed on to support Kontron's Computer-on-Module Standard ETX 3.0.

The newest members of the ETX Industrial Group supporting ETX 3.0 are Arbor Technology Corp., Axiomtek Co. and Blue Chip Technology.

ETX 3.0 introduces 2x serial advanced technology attachment (ATA) without changing any ETX pins, making new modules 100% pin-to-pin backward compatible with previous versions and ensuring support for embedded application solutions based on integrated COMs.

Applications based on ETX COMs include automation, medical, gaming, entertainment, military and aerospace. 100% pin backward compatible ETX 3.0 modules ensure that existing ETX carrier boards need no change, according to Kontron.

To obtain a copy of the ETX 3.0 specification and a list of companies participating in the ETX Industrial Group, visit the ETX Industrial Group web site at www.etx-ig.org.

Kontron and other members of the ETX Industrial Group adopted ETX 3.0 with the intention of keeping the standard viable, undiluted and reliable until at least 2010.

Additional modules built around dual-core processors and others from Intel, Advanced Micro Devices and Via Technologies are planned for release this year with more to follow, according to Kontron.
