The American National Standards Institute-American Society of Quality (ANSI-ASQ) National Accreditation Board (ANAB) granted BSI Management System Aerospace SAE AS9110 accreditation, giving BSI the capability to audit to the full suite of accredited aerospace standards - AS9100, AS9003, AS9110 and AS9120 - worldwide.
The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Aerospace Division published SAE AS9100 after the aerospace industry realised that the needs of the maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) segments were different than any other segment.
The SAE AS9110 Quality Management Systems - Aerospace - Requirements for Maintenance Organisations is based on SAE AS9100 and adds specific requirements that are critical for the maintenance of aerospace vehicles including commercial, private and military, BSI said.
SAE AS9110 was designed for companies that maintain and repair aerospace vehicles for the commercial or military sectors or those that manufacture aircraft parts under U.S. Federal Aviation Administration - Parts Manufacturer Approval (FAA PMA) regulations. FAA 145 certified repair stations are prime candidates to seek certification under AS9110.
By being audited and certified by BSI against the requirements of SAE AS9110, organisations can demonstrate that they have the management and control systems in place to deliver quality products and services that meet the requirements of all stakeholders, according to BSI.
The certification also will give companies access to aerospace industry best practices.
