The Industry Data Exchange Association (IDEA), an industry-backed e-commerce service provider, released Industry Data Warehouse (IDW) version 2.0 (IDW2). IDEA is an e-commerce service provider jointly owned by the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) and the National Association of Electrical Distributors (NAED).
IDW2 is billed as a central data repository of manufacturer-provided and controlled product, pricing and supply chain data that facilitates business data validation and synchronization between manufacturers and trading partners, reducing order management costs and errors that occur in supply chain processes.
The new version, said IDEA, focuses on ease-of-use and flexible integration with distribution management systems. New features of IDW2 include:
- A full-featured web interface.
- Four product options.
- Ease-of-use and flexibility.
- Mapping and transformation.
- Simplified authorization.
- Data delivered in user's Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) format.
- A trade data option.
- A data validation and certification embedded function.
- Full messaging and reporting.
- Web data tools.
- Catalog look-up with Excel extract.
- A published price and net price into stock feature.
IDEA's IDX2 and IDW contractor, Activant Solutions, developed and supported IDW2.
"The IDW2 will deliver a powerful advantage to companies that want to streamline their business information processes," said IDEA President Mike Rioux. "The principle by which the IDW was founded remains the same - a single source repository of manufacturer-owned and managed data. However, the IDW2 operating system is greatly improved, making it much easier to deliver data to the IDW2. More importantly, distributors will be able to bring information into their business system using their own software ERP format. Data will be accepted in any electronic format and will be continuously validated against industry standards and requirements enabling a continuous data certification process. This will greatly improve data synchronization and chop order management costs out of the channel."
In addition to IDW2, IDEA provides the following technologies designed to reduce supply chain costs:
- Industry Data Exchange (IDX2), an Internet-based communications hub that lets business trading partners exchange business documents using Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), XML, flat file or web form transactions sets.
- Industry Retail Database (IRD), a central repository of manufacturer retail product data to meet retail hardware, consumer packaged goods (CPG) and EAN.UCC standards and requirements.
- Data Audit and Certifications (DAC) program to verify that manufacturer data meets specification criteria to ensure data synchronization between business partners.
